AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS' ABILITY READING COMPREHENSION OF THE FIRST GRADE AT SMA SWASTA SATRIA DHARMA PERBAUNGAN IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2020-2021

Abstract

This study aims to determine the students' ability in reading narrative text comprehension, grade X students of SMA Swasta Dharma Perbaungan. The lack of students' ability in understanding reading narrative text causes students not to know and master vocabulary. In this study, there were 30 students in the class. Reading is an activity of seeing written readings and the process of understanding the contents of the text aloud or silently. Reading is expressing an imagination of a reader that is liked by the general public and is also understood by someone. In collecting data to support research, researchers will give tests to students. The test carried out is to answer a multiple choice test. With this test, the researcher will analyze and find out the students' ability to understand the reading in the text. In this study, the researcher used qualitative research because the research data was non-numeric but presented in words. the scores are generated by using the level of reading comprehension of narrative texts, the first is the excellent level with 6 students with a score of 20%, the second level is good with 14 students with a score of 46.66%, the third level is average with 4 students with a score of 13.33% , and the fourth is poor level with 6 students with a score of 20% In reading comprehension of narrative text, many students read and answer the test well, but there are four students who cannot understand narrative text reading.
