A STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF RUPI KAUR'S SELECTED POEMS IN THE SUN AND HER FLOWERS

Abstract

ABSTRACT Poetry as one type of literary works is a kind of imaginative art that does not only have function to entertain readers but also to give some kind of education or knowledge on certain things. The primary data in this research would be analyze selected poems of Rupi Kaur from her book The Sun and Her Flowers entitled Legacy, To Witness a Miracle, Timeless, Introvert, and Ode to Raymond Douillet’s A Short Tour And Farewell. The main purpose of this research to find out the intrinsic and extrinsic elements which are used in the poems. The secondary data are taken from journal and some books of literature. The structural approach was chosen in this research because structural approach used as a toll in describing the intrinsic and extrinsic elements. The method used in this thesis is qualitative method. The finding in this thesis about intrinsic elements like Theme, Figurative language, Diction , Symbolism, Imagery and extrinsic elements would be explain about Social Circumtances at the time the poem was made. This thesis is expected to be a reference for those who want to research about the intrinsic and extrinsic elements contained in poetry.
