THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COOPERATIVE INTEGRATED READING AND STUDENTS PARTICIPATION ON READING ACHIEVEMENT

Abstract

The objective of the research was to investigate the effect of using Cooperative Strategic on comprehension reading text. The method of the research was experimental design. The population of the research was the student of the second year at MAS AL Washliyah Gedung Johor Medan in School Year 2018-2019, with their parallel classes and there are 120 students totally. Each class consisted of 40 students and 80 students from the population were taken as the sample by using random sampling, then they were divided into two group. The first group as the experimental group was taught by using Cooperative Strategic Reading method, while the second group as the control group was taught without using Cooperative Strategic Reading method. The instrument has used to collect the data. It was set of multiple-choice tests. The pre-test and post-tests were administrated. The data collected statistically by applying the t-test formula. The result showed that the t observed is higher than table value 4.64 >1,992 at the level of significant 0.05 and degree of freedom (df) is 78. The null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative was accepted. It implies that Cooperative Strategic Reading significant effects the students’ reading comprehension.
