IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION BY USING METACOGNITIVE STRATEGY

Abstract

This research was aimed to improve the students’ readin comprehension by using metacognitive strategy of seven grade at SMP Karya Serdang Lubuk Pakam in academic year 2020/2021. This subject research was conducted at VII D class of SMP KaryaSerdang. The class consist of 32 students’. The object of this research was to improve students’ readin comprehension by using metacognitive strategy. This research was conducted by using classroom action research as the methodology of this research. The technique of analyzing the data of this research was applied by quantitative data. The quantitative data were taken from students’ test. There were four meetins during the research, they were pre-test, post-test, and post-test II. The result of this research showed the mean score in the pre-test was 33,8 and there was 9,4% ( 3 students ) who et the score 75, the mean score in the cycle I test was 59,1, and there was 37,5% ( 12 students ) who got score 75, the mean score in the cycle II test was 87,5, and there was 84,4% ( 27 students ) who got score 75, it indicate that the score and the mean in second cycle were better than the first cycle. It was found that teaching reading comprehension text by using metacognitive strategy could improve the students’ readin comprehension in narrative text.
