AN ANALYSIS OF THE STUDENT’S ABILITY IN TRANSLATING ENGLISH TEXT INTO BAHASA INDONESIA

Abstract

The study entitled "Analysis of Student’s Ability in Translating English Text into Indonesian" has the aim to find out how students' abilities are and also what difficulties that students face in translating English, especially English texts. This research was conducted on students of class XI Muhammadiyah 19 Stabat High School in the year 2018-2019, amounting to 30 students. The research data was obtained using a test translating words combined into a text that was prepared by the researcher before carrying out the research. Based on the results of this study around 56.6% of the total students have a good ability in translate the English text. And then around 43.3% of the total students still have a level of difficulty that is quite a lot so that it can be said they have poor abilities. Factors causing these students to experience difficulty in translating include their lack of ability to remember vocabulary in English so that they have difficulty translating new vocabulary. So, they need more practice in remembering new vocabulary in English. Based on the results of the average value obtained in this study is 66.1 it can be concluded that the ability of students at the school is not high but also not low or in the other words we can sayed standard level.
