Abstract: | This study discusses the illocutionary speech acts in the buying and selling interactions at Panglong UD Selamat Jaya. The method used to collect data in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The data were analyzed by applying the pragmatic theory of speech acts proposed by Austin and Coulthard's Side by Side Pairing pattern. The findings of this study indicate that the bargaining interaction in panglong Selamat Jaya is an illocutionary speech act (assertive, directive, expressive, commissive, and declaration). The most dominant speech acts are assertive (inform/tell), directive (ask), expressive (thank you), commissive (approve), declarative (decide). A conversation also has a structure that is limited by the pattern of side-by-side/corresponding pairs. It was found that there were eight patterns of side-by-side/corresponding pairs found in the bargaining interaction at Panglong Selamat Jaya, including (1) greeting-greeting patterns, (2) call-answer patterns, (3) information-giving requests patterns, (4) complaints patterns. -acknowledge, (5) the demand-take pattern, (6) the offer-accept pattern, (7) the offer-reject pattern (8) the question-answer pattern. The conversational structure found in Panglong Selamat Jaya has disturbances. |
