THE EFFECT OF USING ENGLISH SONG ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT 7th CLASS OF MTSS YP AL AZHAR MEDAN

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of using English songs to improve students’ vocabulary at MTsS YP Al Azhar Medan. The research was carried out into two classes of research, namely experimental class and control class. The sample of this research consists of 33 students from VIIA in experimental class and 33 students from VIIB in control class. In this research, the experimental class was taught by using English songs as media in teaching while control class was taught by conventional method. The instrument in this research was pre-test, post-test and interview. The technique that used to collect the data was quantitative. The result of this research showed that the use of English songs are effective to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. It can be seen from the result of calculation with the significance level 0.05, it showed that t-test (3.150) is higher than t-table (1.997). It means there is effectiveness of using English songs to improve students’ vocabulary.
