ISLAMIC VALUES IN R.J PALACIO'S " WONDER "

Abstract

The main problem in this research was to figure out the Islamic values that reflected in “wonder” novel by R.J Palacio namely 1) the Islamic moral values of the protagonists in “Wonder” by R.J Palacio and 2) the Islamic etiquette values of protagonists in “Wonder” by R.J Palacio. This research was using descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research was “wonder,” a novel by R.J Palacio. The primary data of this research was every expression in phrases, clauses, sentences, and paragraphs that related with the Islamic value of morals and etiquettes in the novel. The secondary data was obtained from various source like books, articles, journals, and movies related with morals and etiquettes. In collecting the data researchers was using read-write technique. Data analysis was done by using Islamic values. The result of the research sowed two essential points. First, there were 4 moral Islamic values reflected by Augie (Protagonist) namely Augie’s moral towards Allah SWT there was patient in facing things he dislikes, and accept Allah’s provisions, Augie’s moral towards family was asking for forgiven when doing mistakes, and humble when talks with parents, Augie’s moral towards the society was being prudent person, Augie’s moral towards himself was being smart and brave person. Second, there were 4 Augie’s (protagonist) etiquette Islamic values consisted of Augie’s etiquette towards his friend showed how to be fair towards his friends, Augie’s etiquette towards the other was being grateful to those who helped him and helping his friend whether it’s joy or sorrow, Augie’s etiquette towards older and younger person was how Augie talk towards people older than him, Augie’s etiquette towards his parents showed how him being obedient and always makes his parents blissful.
