Abstract: This thesis analyzes the novel Rainshadow road by Lisa Kleypas. The objective of this research was to lay out the romance formulas that exist in popular literary novels. In analyzing this thesis, the process of searching for data and information used library methods as well as journals from the internet. The theory that guided the work of this thesis was the popular literary theory of romance by John G. Cawelti. The results of the analysis showed that the novel contained elements of the character and the plot of the romance story was awakened into a romance formula.
