Improving Students' Ability in Writing Procedural Text by Using Cooking Tutorial Video at XI Grade SMA Istiqlal Delitua

Abstract

The objectives of the research was to improve students' ability in writing procedure text by using cooking tutorial video at XI Grade SMA Istiqlal Delitua. The type of research was classroom action research which conducted in 2 cycles and each cycle consists of 2 meetings. This research use Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) as teaching method. Instruments of collecting the data are observation sheets, tests, interviews, and documentations. The data obtained were analyzed through quantitative analysis to calculate the percentage of completeness. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be seen that students' ability in writing procedure text had increased in each cycle. That was proven by data; students' score in the pre-cycle, the lowest score was 55 and the highest score was 80; students' scores in the cycle I, the lowest score was 62 and the highest score was 93; students' scores in the cycle II, the lowest score was 69 and the highest score was 99. In the pre-cycle, there were 18% (5 of 28 students) who passed the KKM. In the cycle I, there were 71,43% (20 of 28 students) who passed the KKM. In the cycle II, there were 93% (26 of 28 students) who passed the KKM. The conclusion of this research are: (1) cooking tutorial video would be useful and helpful media to improve students’ ability in writing procedure text at XI Grade SMA Istiqlal Delitua, (2) to conduct teaching with cooking tutorial video, the teacher should be more creative and innovative to find out the video that are suitable and related to the lesson, so the teaching learning runs effectively and interesting.
