dc.description.abstractThe background of the study in this research are the students still have difficulties in remembering new vocabulary and confused to understand the vocabulary. The teacherstill uses conventional methods, the teacher only translates the words and monotonous, so the students are easy to get bored. To effective students’ vocabulary mastery, teacher can use song lyrics as teaching medium to help her in teaching learning process. The research methodology was an experimental research, which conducted in two classes; the experimental group (VIIIA) and control group (VIII B) as sample. The VIII A was taught by using song lyrics, while the VIII B was taught without song lyrics (using conventional method). The instrumentsused to collect the data was: test. There are two kinds of test. They are pre-test and post-test. Before items of the test were given to the students, the writer gave tryout test to analyze validity, reliability. Based on research finding, researcher concluded that students’vocabularymastery by the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Raya in class experimental is good. The highest score in the post-test 100 (7 students) and lowest score in the post-test is 70 (3 students). The students’ vocabularymastery in class control is enough. The highest score in the post test is 80 (6 students) and the lowest score in the post test is 50 (1 student).Song Lyric Media gives effect to increase students’ Vocabulary Mastery. It is proved by the result of t-test in which t-score of t-calculated is higher than t-critic, t observed > t table (0.050) or 5.652>1.999 (t-obseved is 5.652, t-critic is 1.999 with df= 62 at the level of significant(0.050). Because of the result, it is important for English teacher to understand and to apply Song Lyric Media, because it has proved to gives effect to increase students’ Vocabulary Masteryand it also make students more active and spirit when they learn English language .en_US
