Abstract: This study was about the difficulties of students use in writing a procedure text. The goals of the study were: To find out the strategy of writing used in student senior high school in Al-Washliyah 12 Sei Rampah, the strenght, and To find out the kinds of errors the students do in writing the text. The descriptive-qualitative method was used in the analysis of writing a procedural text. The write down a procedure text with students own words at least 150 words became the data of this study. The criteria of writing procedural text can be realized linguistically by classifying each sentences, The research was selected 15 students from each class as the sample of the research. Knowing the level of students’ literacy is another important thing since it can be the valuable information for teacher in planning and arranging the teaching materials for the next teaching learning activities. Then with develop what the student already know about the materials and integrate them with information from other sources. It can be help their grammar and discourse when writing a text. As the result, it was found that there were 101 texts from the 128 texts or 78.9% which were categorized into a product – procedure text. The rest 27 texts could be categorized into non – product procedure text. So it can be concluded that almost all of students were not able to write a procedure text since the sentence structure was not learnt yet by the students.
