THE INFLUENCE OF USING SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION ON STUDENTS' READING SKILL

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the influence of using small group discussion on students’ reading skill at second grade of SMKAwal Karya Pembangunan (AKP) Galang in academic year 2019-2020. This research used experiment design research was applied two classes which were divided into two groups which consisted of experimental group and control group. The first group was experimental group which was taught by using small group discussion, while the second one was control group which wastaught withconventional ways. The sample was taken 20 students from each class. The test used multiple choice that administrated as the instrument in collecting data. These test consisted of pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The collected data was analyzed using the t-test formula. The result of the analysis showed that the t-observed (2,96) was higher than t-table (1.67) with the level of significant (0,05) and the degree of freedom (df) (58).The result of research that hypothesis accepted. Therefore, the finding of the research shows that the teaching of reading skill using small group discussion is more influnce than using conventional way.
