THE EFFECT OF SHORT STORIES TO IMPROVE STUDENTS READING SKILL OF SMA NEGERI 1 PANAI HILIR

Abstract

This study aims to determine reading ability using short stories text media of students’ of SMA NEGERI 1 Panai Hilir in the 2020 academic year. In order to achieve to predetermined goals, this study uses the one group pretest and posttest axperimental research method. The number of samples in this study were 40 students. From the results of the study it was found that the average value of the students’ prestest was 63.3 wit a standard deviation of 8.46. While the average value of students posttest is 84.5 with standard deviation 8.84. Hypothesis testing using the t-test shows the count score is greater than the table score (t count = 9.592 > t table = 2,048 ) at the significance level of 5% pr 0.05. This shows that there is a significant effect between the use of short stories media on the text reading ability students of SMA NEGERI 1 Panai hilir. The author really hopes that educators are able to try and apply the right media and in accordance with the material to be taught, one of which is the use of media short stories on tetxt reading improvement.
