AN ANALYSIS OF SLANG WORDS IN THE BASKETBALL DIARIES MOVIE

Abstract

This research relates to slang words in the film The Basketball Diaries. The research objective is focused on analyzing the types of slang and the meanings contained in them as proposed by Chapman's theory (2007). This type of research is descriptive qualitative, this research systematically describes data on slang words in the film The Basketball Diaries. This research discusses 2 types of slang, namely primary and secondary and their meanings. This research uses 9 scenes related to slang in the film The Basketball Diaries. The findings that researchers obtained in the film were 63 slang words which were primary slang and 39 slang words which were secondary slang and the meanings contained in them such as calls to action, insulting words, expressing opinions, mentioning drugs and describing a person's character
