Improving Students' Ability in Writing Descriptive Text Through Picture for The Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 1 Lawe Alas

Abstract

The research is aimed to find out the improvement of the students’ ability in writing descriptive text through picture. The subject of this research was a class IPA 3 at the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Lawe Alas. It consisted of 20 students in one class, they are male and female. This research was conducting by using Classroom Action Research (CAR) that consisted of four phase: planning, acting, observing, and reflection. The technique of analyzing data was applied in this research was quantitative. The data are collected through observation, test, and documentation. The quantitative data was gained from tests such as pre-test, post-test I and post-test II. The data were analyzing from the observation sheet, worksheet, and documentation of photos. The result of the research showed there was improvement in students’ ability in writing descriptive through picture. It can be seen from the mean of the score, the pre-test was 49, the post-test I was 67, and the post-test II was 81. It showed that the implementation of using picture could improve srudents’ ability in writing descriptive text and could effect on students’ understanding in orally English word and vocabulary. The students could more active, enthusiastic and interesting in the learning activity. It can concluded that the implementation of using picture was effective to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text.
