dc.description.abstractThis research was conducted as an attempt to improve of students’ reading ability through direct method at SMAS Satria Dharma. It was a classroom action research. The subject was the tenth grade students at SMAS Satria Dharma, Consisted of 33 students. The research was done in two cycles and consisted of six meetings. The instrument used to collect the data in this research was by using reading test which consist of 15 question multiple choices question and 5 essays as quantitative data and observation sheets as qualitative data. The result of the reading test showed that the students’ score improved in all tests. The mean of the students’ score in pre-test was 52.72, the mean of the students’ score in cycle I was 70.30 and the mean of the students’ score in cycle II was 81.21. the mean score in cycle II was highest, so it is concluded that students’ reading comprehension improved from 52.72 to 81.21. Based on the observation sheet, it was found the teaching-learning process ran well. The findings of this research indicate that using the direct method significantly improved the students' reading comprehension. It is found based on data analyzing data that the students’ in reading comprehension has improved after using the direct method.en_US
