Abstract: This research analyzed the forms of struggle experienced by the main character in Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, Kidnapped. Using qualitative content analysis with Badio's (2022) struggle theory approach, this research identified and classified the various types of struggle experienced by David Balfour. The results indicate 28 valid forms of struggle, divided into four main categories: (1) 7 heroic struggles, (2) 11 perseverance struggles, (3) 2 family-related struggles, and (4) 8 selfless struggles. An interesting finding is the absence of elements of nationalism-based struggle in the narrative. This research provided a new perspective on character development through life's challenges in classic literature.
